Prologue
Opening the Special Exhibition
The Korean independence movement began at the end of the 19th century and ended with liberation in 1945 from Japanese imperialism and colonial rule. It involved armed struggle in some countries and support for that armed struggle wherever Koreans resided around the world, as well as various diplomatic, educational, cultural and other efforts.
This exhibition provides an overview of the history of the Korean independence movement, focusing on photos and related materials containing the main scenes of the movement. They are presented in digital form and can be viewed online beyond the constraints of time and space. It is meant to help people understand this important part of Korean history and share its universal values with the rest of the world.
